Do Students Read the Trib During Break?

I wonder how many students are aware of this, if not from the Tribune than from some other source.

  1. I read about this in the Daily Illini yesterday. I can't say I'm surprised, I had some professors last semester that said they weren't sure if they were even going to receive a paycheck in the Spring. I'm surprised there isn't more outrage, both from students and faculty, to put pressure on the State to provide funds. At the same time, our state's budget is a mess, so I'm not exactly sure what a potential solution could be...

  2. If it were just budget issues without the change in University Leadership, I believe these decisions would have been announced earlier, though that is only a conjecture. There is obviously a lot of uncertainty. Among the bigger issues is whether folks on Campus try to respond by keeping things as much as possible like business as usual or if the response is "feel our pain." That will play out over the next several weeks/months.

  3. I read about this the other day. It was on the front page of the Tribune, so it was hard to miss. How can there be a $436 gap? Does this money exist somewhere, or is it just on paper that it exists?

  4. I love when a math guy asks whether something exists. The state is in the hole $5B+ but the governor has said it will make payment. Smoke and mirrors can be very effective short term. Then what?

  5. Professor Arvan,
I have a quick question for you, and as I somehow seem to have lost your e-mail, I will post it here.

Basically, what link do you use to view blog comments in google reader?
    Thanks,
    Greg
P.S. You can respond via e-mail (geisenm@illinois.edu, in case you did the same thing I did!)
